A Brief About The Society

The society was established under the clause ( 6 ) of section ( 35 ) of law of The Jordan Medical Association number ( 13 ) in the year 1972 , it contains all the registered surgeons in The Hashemet Kingdom Of Jordan in any branch of the surgical specialties .

The Society Targets

1 : Scientific

Raising the scientific standards and encourage research and study for all the surgeons in different ways , like conducting workshops , lectures , local and international conferences and exchange experiences with the other local and international societies

2 : Professional

A. Raising the cooperation spirits between the members and keeping the high technical and ethical standards .

B . The member should only practice his specialty .

C . Helping the surgeons to have the optimum circumstances for patients service .

D . Cooperation with the surgical institutes to achieve their duties , and helping them to improve their quality of services .

3 : Social

Encourage the activities that create the best social relations among the members in order to achieve the scientific and professional targets .

Terms for joining the society

1 : The applier should be registered in The Jordan Medical Association with full payment of the financial commitments .

2 : The applier should have a license to practice surgery in Jordan in any of the surgical branches .

3 : The applier should registered as a surgeon in The Jordan Medical Association .

4 : The applier should pass the Jordan Medical Council certificate in surgery or any of its branches , or the degree in surgery or any of its branches he / she got should be approved by the Jordan Medical Council , to all whom he / she  applied to The Jordan Surgical Society after 30 / 6 / 2000 .

5 : the applier should fell the application from , with two references from the society members with the application , and to have a copy of the certificate of the Jordan Medical Council or its evaluation .

6 : The applications should be applied to the society board and approval is obtained by the majority .

The Society Board

1 : A president and six members .

2 : The president is elected by  secret election , then the rest of members , the board will hold an immediate meeting to choose among its members a voice president , secretary and honorary .

3 : The president can be elected for two periods .

4 : The president period is for two years , same as the membership .

5 : Each year three members are elected to replace those who finished the two years membership , but the first board members are elected together , three of them will loose their board membership randomly at first coming election .

6 : The candidate for the president post should be a member in the Jordanian society of surgeons for a period not less than ten years , but for the candidate of board membership , should be a members in the Jordanian society of surgeons not less than five years or an establisher member.

7 : The board will meet at lest once every two months .

The Beginning

The society was established in 1972 , and the first elected board held the first meeting on 15 / 3 / 1972 , and the opening ceremony was took place in 23 / 11 / 1972 under the patronage of late king Hussein Bin Talal where he was rewarded the first honorary membership .

Till 27 / 11 / 1973 the total number of the members in the society were 35 member .

In 16 / 5 / 1973 the first annual party was held to the members and their families .

In 13/ 2 / 1974 a joint meeting with The Jordanian Medical Association , were the board of the society emphasized upon the independency of the society  according to its members benefits .

In 29 / 2 / 2006 the internal law of the society was modified during its annual meeting , where the membership clause was modified and the members who were delay in their payment , were allowed to pay only the last two years and the rest of the delayed years were canceled .

The Society held lectures , scientific days , months scientific nights and its annual conferences , where the society emphasized that the conferences should be rich in its contents , and the attendance of guests from all over the world .the total number of the annual conferences till now were 34 .

* 24 – 27 / 4 / 2002 The twenty ninth society meeting and the eleventh Pan Arab Surgical meeting in holiday – inn Hotel – Amman.

* 28 – 30 / 8 / 2002 The thirteth society meeting together with the fifth Jordanian Gastro – entorology society meeting in The Royal Cultural Center .

* 5 – 8 / 3 /2003 The thirty first meeting in The Intercontinental Hotel .

* 2 – 4 / 9 / 2004 The thirty second society meeting and the fourteenth Pan Arab meeting in Holiday – Inn , Amman .

* 18 – 19 / 9 / 2005 The thirty third meeting in Al-Basheer Hospital .
